Monday numbers: A closer look at for-profit colleges

449,235 – Total undergrad enrollment in North Carolina

19,767 – Total for-profit undergrad enrollment in North Carolina

56.4% – NC Completion rate (in 6 years) at public 4-year colleges

17.7% – NC Completion rate (in 6 years) at for-profit 4-year colleges

$1.4 trillion – estimated value of outstanding student loans in America (Bipartisan Policy Center)

44.2 million – number of Americans who have student loan debt

$23,337 – North Carolina median debt at Graduation for students attending a public 4-year college

$26,538 – North Carolina median debt at Graduation for students attending a private 4-year college

$31,181 – North Carolina median debt at Graduation for students attending a for-profit 4-year college

$203 – Median monthly student loan payment for borrower aged 20 to 30 (Federal Reserve Bank)

7.3% – North Carolina’s 3-year cohort default rate on college debt for those students attending a public 4-year college

13.4% – North Carolina’s 3-year cohort default rate on college debt for those students attending a for-profit 4-year college
