Candlelight vigils protest cuts to social safety net

Candlelight vigils will be held in in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Asheville this evening to urge North Carolina’s congressional delegation to oppose cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, and support higher taxes for the wealthy.

  • Raleigh’s candlelight vigil will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday at Senator Kay Hagan’s office, 310 New Bern Ave, Raleigh, NC.
  • In Greensboro, a similar event will be held at 5:00 p.m. outside Congressman Mel Watt’s office, 301 S. Greene St.
  • And in Asheville the candlelight vigil will be held outside Senator Richard Burr’s office, 151 Patton Ave.

Organizers of events include: NC State AFL-CIO, MoveOn.org, NC Conference of the United Methodist Church, NC Justice Center, Working America, Genesis Baptist Church, the N.C. Alliance for Retired Americans and others.
