NC Newsline reporter wins pair of prestigious journalism awards

Lisa Sorg’s series, “Unnatural Disaster,” was among two special reports for which she was recognized this month by the Green Eyeshade Awards.

NC Newsline Assistant Editor and Environmental Reporter Lisa Sorg has won a pair of prestigious journalism awards. Sorg, who has been recognized numerous times in state and national competitions during her seven years at Newsline, was recognized in the Green Eyeshade Awards, a contest that has recognized the very best journalism in the southeastern United States since 1950.

Sorg was awarded first place in the digital division for deadline reporting for her coverage of last year’s massive Weaver Fertilizer fire in Winston-Salem. Click here to explore the first of several reports she published.

She also took home second place in the category “public service online journalism” for “Unnatural Disaster” — her remarkable and impactful ongoing series of investigative reports into North Carolina’s botched hurricane recovery effort.
