For those of you following the hospital building boom in North Carolina – and that should include everyone concerned with the rising cost of health care – Rex Hospital in Raleigh was just approved to build a new three-story, $150 million outpatient center across Blue Ridge Road from the main Rex campus.
You can read the findings of state regulators here .
Rex says in it's proposal to the state that the new outpatient center will be accessible to the underserved and uninsured. It also claims that it provided $61 million in uncompensated care to the community for 2007, although that number is a little squishy since WakeMed provides 85 percent of the charity care for Wake County.
