North Carolina Senator Richard Burr is everywhere these days, gearing up for his bid for reelection next year. But it is far from clear where he stands on health care reform, including the common-sense proposal by President Obama to give consumers the choice of buying into a public plan for coverage.

Much of the hysteria of the anti-reform crowd at recent town halls has focused on the the public option, any version of which they claim will turn the United States into the former Soviet Union overnight.

But Burr doesn’t seem to have a philosophical problem with the public option, saying recently that it is ok as long as the private sector is left alone.

So it’s a good idea then to have government competing with private insurance companies. Now we are getting somewhere. Or not.

Burr said in Hamlet Monday that it’s a good sign that President Obama is considering ending his push for a public option.

Burr is not only everywhere in North Carolina, he is all over the place on health care reform.
