Here’s a candidate for the most ridiculous bill filed this legislative session, and that’s saying something this year.
It is House Bill 184 introduced by Rep. Stephen Laroque that would allow elected officials, including legislators, to carry a gun anywhere they want in North Carolina.
That would mean lawmakers and county commissioners could take their concealed handguns into businesses that have banned them and into government buildings, like the Legislative Building in Raleigh, where guns are now illegal.
The bill not only tramples on private property rights that Republicans claim to hold sacred, it gives members of the General Assembly and other elected officials special rights that other citizens don’t have.
